History of Cala Baños de la Reina

In the coastal town of El Campello (Alicante) we can swim in some “natural” pools located in an old peninsula with a lot of history.

They are named after a legend that says that they were made by a Moorish queen to be able to swim in the sea, away from the waves. However, just like Los Baños de la Reina in Calpe, they are fish rafts or fish farms from the Roman period.

They are located behind an archaeological site, the Illeta dels Banys, which is over 5,000 years old and one of the most important in the Mediterranean.
